Toby Beels is the implementation manager at Step Up Financial Group. With over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, including high-profile roles with some of Australia’s and the world’s largest financial institutions, he is a significant asset to the Step Up team. He believes there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” when it comes to clients’ superannuation and retirement planning.
“There is now much greater accessibility for different products for retail investors that were previously only available for wealthy individuals. As a result, most people can now achieve greater diversification and (hopefully) greater returns and at a lower cost than ever before,” says Toby.
Toby is encouraged by the changes regarding regulation within the industry that has resulted in greater consolidation among industry participants. This change has brought about clearer and more appropriate advice driven by a fee-for-service model rather than commissions.
Toby brings a level of qualified expertise to the business including a Masters in Applied Finance, a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and Graduate Certificate of Applied Data Science. His educational background coupled with his working experience are invaluable to the decision-making process at Step Up Financial and widely beneficial to clients at all stages of their wealth journey.
“There is still work to do convincing the general public there is value in seeking professional financial advice. They don’t need to settle for a default employer-backed super fund and there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to building wealth. Helping people retire well and young enough to enjoy it is a passion and is accessible to everyday Australians,” says Toby.

When he’s not at work, Toby is a keen right-handed golfer who is actually left-handed Yes that is true!!! He also recently completed his first Sydney marathon.
